Michigan delta omega.History
The Michigan Delta-Omega chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon was colonized on January 18, 2003 and chartered, granting its members full membership in ΣAE, the following spring on April 24, 2004.
The chapter traces its beginnings to a student group called The Gentlemen’s Club; an organization founded on September 12, 2001 with the sole purpose of bringing a new national fraternity to CMU’s campus. The young men who started the group sought a fraternity whose ideals, principals and practices were inline not only with the university’s, but also with their values as student leaders. Sigma Alpha Epsilon was that fraternity.
Early on the membership sought out the support and guidance of members of the CMU community, including its Dean of Student, the Director of the university’s Leadership Institute, Dyke Heinze (an alumni brother from the University of Michigan who still serves as the chapters advisor), and most importantly, members of the Greek Community.
The road from idea to full and equal member of the university’s Greek Community was not simple, quick or easy. However, those who preserved and remained loyal to the founding goals of The Gentlemen’s Club – and ΣAE – were ultimately rewarded with membership in one of the truly great Greek letter organizations.
Since receiving its charter in 2004 the Michigan Delta-Omega chapter of ΣAE has continued to set a high bar for itself, its members and the communities to which it belongs. The organization has received Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s highest honors including the Bunting Colony of the Year award and the Zeal Award – an award given annually to the best overall chapter in the realm.
The chapter and its members have made a lasting commitment to excellence in brotherhood, academics, life and community and look forward with anticipation to future successes as individuals and as a chapter.
